FREE HEALTH CHECK-UP ON WORLD HEALTH DAY


Free check-up camp on eve of World Health Day


On the eve of World Health Day, on Thursday, Fortis Hospital in Mohali, organised a free health check-up camp at the Community Centre in Ramdarbar Colony, Chandigarh as part of its Rural Outreach Programme. Over 80 senior citizens attended the camp. Dr Rajesh Chauhan, consultant, Internal Medicine, spoke on 'Water-borne diseases and their prevention' while Dr Sonia Gandhi, head of Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, spoke on 'Healthy diet for a healthy life". Free medicines were also distributed amongst the senior citizens.

Dr Rajesh Chauhan educated the residents on water-borne diseases caused by drinking contaminated water, "Diseases caused by dirty water are cholera, typhoid, amoebic and bacillary dysentery and other diarrheal diseases." Talking about how one can avoid these diseases, Dr Chauhan said, "Wash your hands with soap and water before handling food. Wash, peel or cook all raw vegetables and fruits before eating. By following these simple hygiene rules, one can avoid the spread of these infectious diseases to a great extent."

Dr Sonia Gandhi said, "Three main rules should govern what we eat: Food should nourish and help safeguard health. It should play a role in fighting ailments or diseases, It should also look and taste good".
